Do I need to know how to pose for my boudoir photoshoot?
Nope! Not even a little bit. If you have been searching for "how to pose for boudoir" or wondering if you need to know boudoir poses before your session, take a breath. You do not need modeling experience. You do not need to practice in front of your mirror. And you definitely don't need to memorize a bunch of boudoir poses from Pinterest. That is literally my job.
How Does Posing Work During a Boudoir Session?
When you come into my Brookville, Florida studio for your boudoir photoshoot, you aren't going to be standing in front of my camera thinking, "okay,,, what the hell do I do now?" I am going to tell you. I will guide you through each pose and show you how to position your hands, arms, legs, hips, chin, and feet. I will demonstrate movements give you direction one at a time and make slight adjustments as we go. You might hear:
"Stick that booty out"
"Point your toes"
"Lift your chin"
"Turn your hip this way"
And occasionally... "hold on we got to fix your strap and give you a wedgie".
You Don't need to Know Any Boudoir Poses
One of the biggest things women worry about before a boudoir session is looking awkward. What do I do with my hands? Where do I put my leg? How am I supposed to look sexy? What if I freeze? I've got you. You aren't responsible for creating the pose. You're responding to my direction. Instead of expecting you to hold one position perfectly, I will guide you through small movements. Turn your body. Shift your weight. Move your hand. Look at me. Close your eye. Breathe.
Those little movements give us different angles and natural looking images without you having to think about what comes next.
What If a Boudoir Pose Feels Weird?
This is probably my favorite part. Sometimes I will put you into a position and you will look at me like I have officially lost my mind. You are thinking "There is no way this looks good." and I am thinking "Yes, hold that". Then I turn the camera around. "Wait that is me?" Yes. That is you! A pose can feel completely weird from where you are standing because you aren't seeing the camera angle, the lightning, or the little details I am seeing. That is why having a professional boudoir photographer guide your posing makes such a difference.
What Do I Do with My Hands?
Probably the number one posing question. You don't have to figure it out. I will give your hands somewhere to go and adjust them if something isn't working. The same goes for your arms, legs, shoulders, hips, and feet. If I see something that needs a tiny adjustment, I will tell you. Sometimes moving your hand an inch or turning you hip slightly can completely change a photograph. You don't have to see those details. I do.
Do I Need Modeling Experience for Boudoir Photography?
Absolutely not. You can be completely new to professional photography and still have an amazing experience. In fact, none of my clients are models. They are women who decided they wanted to do something for themselves. So if you have been searching for a boudoir photographer in Brooksville, Tampa, or the surrounding Tampa Bay area and posing is the thing holding you back, you can officially cross that worry off your list. You don't need to know how to pose. You just need to trust me. Stick that booty out. Point those toes. Lift your chin. Breathe. And let me do the damn posing.
